This is one of my favorite projects, a photorealistic illustration of Dr. Dorian Haywood, a professional bodybuilder at Armbrust Pro Gym performing the side-tricep bodybuilding pose… (I think)
This is a digital illustration in Procreate for the iPad. Above are some of the rough screen shots taken while the I was drawing. As it happens, it’s really hard to tell that the final illustration isn’t a photograph. (But you can see the video which I’ll add at some point and you’ll see it live.)
The outer branding was added at a later stage for funzies. I had an idea at the time that I wanted to be doing this regularly.
Figure studies like this one are excellent ways to learn about anatomy and kinesiology, especially if you’re physically awkward like the founder of ThinkTank.
The unreal part about this is that I know this guy and this is actually what he looks like. Lol
Photorealism, Figure Photography and Studies
One of thinktank’s favorite talents and services are figure photography, studies, and illustration (they’re all related.) Usually, the easiest way to do a photorealistic illustration is from a photo since they take a minute and it’s tough (and expensive usually) to get a model to sit still that long.
Meanwhile, figure photography uses all the same principles and it’s great fun to express the heroic in man in this way.
